JoyceDeWitt started her stage career at age 13. At the age of 13 years old, Dewitt began to perform on the stage. She received the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Ball State University. The director encouraged her to apply for UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed that she never met Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt's character as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-1984 period is among her most well-known. She was selected for the pilot of the show and was offered the role. Janet was also a part of an episode of the show The Ropers in 1979. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984, following which she resigned from acting for a number of years. Acting was her first return on stage in June of 1991 in which she appeared on the Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. Then she was a part of the TV comedy Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired a 1997 episode featuring characters based on her. It was voiced partially by another actress. She was in the episode of Cybill. Her 2000s work include television shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
